A TOTAL of 7,967 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) were reported in Johor from January 1 until yesterday, a 75-fold increase from 106 cases in the same period last year.
State Health and Unity Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said 6,870 cases involved children aged six years and below, followed by those aged seven to 12 (946) while the rest were aged 13 and above.
He said Johor Baru registered the highest number of cases at 2,741, Kluang (1,039), Tangkak (855), Batu Pahat (817), Segamat (679), Kota Tinggi (616), Pontian (532), Muar (313), Kulai (258) and Mersing (117).
“To date, five active outbreaks of HFMD have been reported in Johor and all of them involve the Johor Baru district.
“However, the situation is still under control, proven by the decline in HFMD cases reported in the state starting from epidemiology week 22/2022 until 26/2022,” he said in a statement today.
He said the HFMD outbreak locations in the state were kindergartens, with 45 outbreaks followed by private homes (22), nurseries (13), kindergartens (9), pre-schools (8), primary schools (3) and day-care centres (2). – Bernama, July 3, 2022.
